Logitech G304, Itachi Ver.

A friend reached out and asked if I could repaint his mouse. We go way back with a shared office mouse, an old MSI I bought from CD-R King and repainted out of boredom. When the pandemic hit, I left it at the office. He was kind enough to take it home, and returned it to me 2 years later. So naturally, he knew I was the guy to call.. 👻🚫 for painting mice, that is.

he sent me this
i sent him this

Fortunately, I had a couple of G304 shells lying around from my Wireless Viper Mini build. We agreed to swap shells instead - he keeps his mouse while I work on a donor shell, so he has no excuse to lose his games.

I knew I was going to hand paint the symbols and the white outline, so I had to practice on another shell. (wow I do have a couple of shells, just how many G304's did I buy off facebook marketplace

the vision, it's materializing!

Initially, I thought I would prime everything white, mask out the clouds, black coat, then red. And that I would be able to paint the "glow" and fill in the clouds at the same time. (the glow would be the overspray in filling the cloud)

Primed in white, and masked
Red pieces painted separately

Painted in matte black
but it doesnt even look matte lol

I should really learn how to not rush things, yes? I actually don't remember what happened to this piece, but since I am so good at my job (i am not) I was able to fix it. (inner voice: if you're so good, you wouldn't have made this mistake in the first place)

This is the overspray I was talking about - it would create the glow when I painted the white cloud with red paint.
overspray turns into glow
i mean, it does right :/

Aight. Bet. So far so good. I tried painting the outlines. And while we're here, I also tried painting the Konoha logo. And here I finally put the logo in the correct location - at the top, not to be pressed with the finger. I also did this a couple of times with how small it is. 😭

gaslighting myself that it looks good
e r a s e d
nope, not it
still not it. damn it
finally 😪

I had to re-do it a lot of times. I couldn't get the lining to be consistent. I was painting it at the wrong location, though. hahah which I corrected later.

wow!
looking
good

so far, huh?
hope I don't accidentally
RUIN IT

At this point, I was mainly using waterbased acrylic paints. I was not in my right mind (as you read on through my blog, you will know that I am not mostly in my right mind) and I think I wiped it down using rubbing alcohol.
oops

I tried painting the black over to hide the streak, and then lining it again. You can see how it looked.

it hurts my eye
It looked horrible

I had to bring out this meme

I don't know where I got the energy to do it at this point. Haha. You know that feeling when you worked so hard, then made a little mistake, and it made you redo the whole thing? Yeah, it's taxing. haha. I had to strip all the paint off and redo it.

This was a screenshot from a video of me stripping it off

But you know, for every setback you encounter, you MUST recover. And this time, I decided to use lacquer paints.

Honestly, I like this red
Better than the acrylic from before

I wasn't actually satisfied with the end result. :( there are a couple of spots here and there that I believe were dust or some debris. I also wanted to top coat this using 2k, but I didn't want to waste a can of 2k spray can on just this 1 mouse. A can costs around Php 600, and once you activate it, (mix the hardener to the resin) you only have maybe 24hours to use all of it. I considered 2k because it's an object that you are constantly in contact with. Oils from the skin may affect the finish, and with a 2k coat, I assume it's going to be tougher than a regular top coat.

With the client's funko pop

This is what it looked like after around 2 months of use. I don't remember what top coat I used on these parts, but as evident here, it's not really withstanding the constant use :<

I hope I can redo another one in the future, and do it a bit more justice. 'Till, then, my dear friends, I hope you don't lose your motivation and keep on working on your hobbies!

Cheers!
