Fat Pikachu

Last year, our Director and a VP from our company came to visit us in the Philippines. We had a little a little get-together and a chance to get to know each other. VP learned of my hobby and he said that his favorite pokemon is Pikachu. And I took that personally.

Decent picture of that fatty ass rodent

There are a lot of pikachu models online. I was actually considering this one, but I dont think it was appropriate to give to someone of that stature.

Scary-chu.

I also considered the swole pikachu, but decided against it as well and just went with a simple, classic, pikachu. I found this one from cults3d, and I think it suited the situation perfectly. It was my first time meeting with the VP, but the director had already visited us back in 2023, and in the time since, I'd put on a bit of weight. So, I'm fat, pikachu is fat. Perfect!

As with my other side-projects, I didn't take that much photos of this as it was a simple build: 3d print, sand, paint, done.
1st sanding pass

2nd sanding after some primer and filler

Painting figures is one of the skills I wanted to improve. I gained a bit of confidence after the godzilla practice piece, but that one was for me. This one was for someone, so I must do well.

Test piece is on the left, btw 😩

It's a given by now, that some of the pieces I test are good. Sometimes better. As evident again here. haha. I printed another one, primed, and tried to paint it like the classic fat pikachu. It looked good! Then I tried to paint my final piece. It was crap. The yellow was too saturated, I outlined the nose a little too large, the lining on the eye slipped, among other things.

I wanted to paint it like this.

After sanding and re-painting it, I can finally look at it and let out a sigh of relief. It is now on-par with my test piece. hahah

Test piece is on the right, as evident by the layer lines.

Of course, it did not go perfectly. In my rush to finish this, there are some "finishing touches" I accidentally added to the piece. And by finishing touches, I meant my fingerprint and some other blemishes when I handle it and the paint wasn't dry. haha

Since this was meant to be a visual display piece, I bought an acrylic display case. Now I had to figure out how to "place" this inside it. The bottom wasn't particularly flat, so it wobbled when you placed it down.
Pikachu's fat ass and butt hole

I quickly designed an insert to the display case. In a square base, I lowered pikachu's butt into it to essentially cut-out a shape for him to sit properly.

But that alone won't solve the wobbling issue. So along with the insert, I also put in a magnet. Now you can pick up the case and inspect different angles without him falling off.

All that was left was to give this when the VP visited the country next.

I also got my test piece signed! Cool! I wasn't able to take a picture of the pikachu in the acrylic display case because I literally just assembled and removed the film the morning before the visit.

Mission Accomplished.

Cheers!
